Immigration Law

Individuals who can prove a well-founded fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group can apply for permanent residency in the United States. Applicants must be located outside of the United States to apply for refugee status. Those physically present in the United States may apply for asylum, provided they meet the definition of a refugee and are not barred by law from applying for or being granted asylum. The United States allocates over 100,000 visas to refugees.
